The wolf aspect of this painting resulted from a fantastic accident. I had finished the nude and was painting in the red background….. stopped for a break.. came back, picked up the wrong brush and made an unintentional black mark in the top left-hand corner of the paper. I was immediately struck by the claw-like look of it… so I made a few more black marks just as quickly with the almost dry brush and finished the background with lashings of yellow. From what would have been a striking but seemingly meaningless abstract nude, I’d accidentally drawn out and captured the animal within. Or are there really no such thing as accidents?
