A lot of my abstract nudes look like they’ve been at war... battling some unseen, unspoken foe. I paint them in a moment of contemplation, resting as wounds heal and scars begin to fade.

I created the underlying drawing for this in 2010 (message me if you’d like to see it), just before I moved from Perth to Sydney. Unfortunately this drawing and approximately 60 others have been in a state of suspended animation since then, due to personal issues. Only in recent weeks have I begun to revisit these and finish working on them. Finally seeing these works in vibrant colour, I feel I am breathing new life into them. In fact they look more beautiful for the long time they’ve spent asleep.

Blue. You and I in a room at night. Lit by the moon, a pale blue light flooded the quiet space. Blue. Your face.. smooth, translucent skin. No hint of the din from the street below. So blue... your hair.. the dark blue water beneath a wave. Wet cars slid across your chest, transposed, in shades of indigo blue. And the world went blue and swept us up in a crush of blinding, hyperlink blue.

  • Mixed-media drawing of a very sad girl, staring longingly out of her high-rise window. Between the tall buildings surrounding her, she is just able to see slim glimpses of the river. She loves looking at the water so much... and sometimes fears she will never have a better view than this.
